The Club Founders
Our founders were a group of local individuals who desired a country club
for their own enjoyment and family use at a time when such facilities were
scarce in the Sacramento area. They were not real estate developers or golf
professionals building a course for their own commercial interests. All
funds collected or earned by the Club have gone back into its development and
operation for the enjoyment of its members.
The Golf Course
The gentle roll of the land purchased for the course allowed the layout and
construction of a much more interesting golf facility than flat contours would
have afforded and is what sets North Ridge Country Club apart from most valley
courses. Starting with only a few initial large oaks, the extensive stand of
trees that North Ridge has planted over the years can now be characterized as
an "Urban Forest," with over 2100 trees of more than 59 species. The golf
course has developed into one that members can play time after time without
growing tired of the golf challenges offered.
The Renovated Clubhouse
In 1997, the clubhouse was completely rebuilt and modernized at a cost of six
million dollars. It was enlarged to contain approximately 34,000 square feet
of enclosed space suitable for all manner of activities by members and their guests
and is now an appropriate match for the splendid golf course. The Ballroom, with
its openness and lovely views on two sides, is not equaled anywhere in the area.
The kitchen contains state of the art equipment. The elevated location of the clubhouse
offers great vistas overlooking much of the golf course. It is a great venue for
member dining, activities, and parties, and offers members an attractive facility in which
to host their guests and for special celebrations.
History of North Ridge Country Club - The First Half Century
Recently North Ridge Country Club celebrated its fifty year anniversary from its conception
in 1951 and incorporation as a non-profit member-owned club in 1952. As part of the
celebration, a 115-page printed booklet, "History of North Ridge Country Club - the First Half Century,"
was issued. More than 80 photographs, many in color, and explanatory text describe how the
historic McMillan farm on 200 acres of beautiful rolling oak studded land in the then rural
Fair Oaks area was transformed into our present club. This booklet is on sale in the club pro-shop
and should be of interest to anyone interested in learning more about the club's beginnings and the
development of our outstanding golf course and new clubhouse, whether they be current members, or anyone
contemplating joining.
